Could There Now Actually be a Diagnosis For Irritable Bowel Syndrome

It does look very promising that there is now a definite diagnosis for IBS. Research uncovered by the Sahlgrenska Academy, was published earlier this year on the University of Gothenburg’s website confirming this to be true.

It’s been a long time coming, with over thirty million people in the United States alone said to be suffering IBS symptoms, but researchers say that ‘”specific proteins” called granins (more specifically, secretogranin II) which are found in our body, are higher in people who have irritable bowel syndrome.

More research is needed before these ‘biomarkers’ are definitively confirmed, but the future does now look brighter for IBS patients. And it is about time.
