Cherries – A New Cure for Gout?

A year long study has just been completed on how a common garden fruit, the cherry, could lower the risk of gout attacks. Six hundred individuals were asked to include cherries as part of their daily diet. This included cherry extract.

The symptoms of gout are extreme pain and swelling usually in your big toe, but it affect any of the following joints:

  • Wrists
  • Knees
  • Fingers
  • Elbows
  • Ankles

The pain can be so severe, that even the slightest touch of the infected area could be ‘devastatingly’ painful.

The predictability of gout attacks is hard to ascertain, and symptoms can last anywhere up to ten days.

About seventy five percent of participants of this study reported that when they did include cherries in their diet, that gout attacks ceased to be as often.
